Feeding my information hunger

Or playing with RSS feeds:

Apologies for the rushed post: I'm squeezing in 23 things tasks as a refresher for my poor Endnote-obsessed work brain.

I've already played with some feeds via my personal homepage, but I was a good librarian and followed instructions. I now have Google Reader set up with three feeds:

1. author Neil Gaiman's journal from his website
2. Pub Rants: an agent blog from blogspot.com
3. Tokyo Trash Baby's blog from our own 23 things group.

I'll work on the library feeds soon. I'm finding most of the bellydancing librarian blogs are on livejournal - I can view them from my own lj account, but I'm not finding any options for RSS feeding them without having to set up a feed specially. I shall investigate further when I have a free moment or two...

I'm weak - I ended up going to Technorati and looking for librarian blogs there. I found it less than user-friendly, but have now added feeds to:

4. Free Range librarian
5. Librariesinteract.info - an Australian libraries blog

and, because Endnote is eating my brain:

6. the official Endnote blog

I've used old text readers in the past, and can see how having something like google reader would facilitate the quick browsing of relevant postings. However I don't see how I will be able to wedge that task into already full workdays.

Playing with pictures

Flickr - scuba diving in Borneo

Welcome to my Flickr account. I've made public some of the photos my husband Ken took during our recent scuba-diving trip in Borneo. Happy memories!

I have since joined the Flickr group: "Digital Underwater Photography"

Commenting in blogs

It's an interesting experience blogging for work. When I set up my livejournal, a couple of years ago, it was at the encouragement of several online writing friends. I already had a preset group of people who were interested in my posts about the process of writing novels, and they were enthusiastic about travel holiday and child rearing postings as well. I can let my inner ditz run free.

I've commented in Gary's and Fiona's 23 things blogs.

For this exercise, I hesitated. While these blogs and activities are about us, they're about us in a working environment. How much should I reveal about myself in such comments? Perhaps too much, given I've already mentioned my tendency to triple-check locked doors and fall off bikes. *shrugs*

Some days are like that....

... some months are like that! I've only just started my 23 things activities. In honor of past procrastination I offer to you:

Procrastination cat from LOLcats

Hmm. LOLcats doesn't allow me to link to their image. Why not? I'm off to investigate...

Welcome!

Welcome to the first posting of Libraries at the Threshold, where I will likely natter on about the impact of new technologies on the delivery of information services to libraries. I might even sneak in links to bellydancing librarians and things equally jingly and spangly.

I will most likely use this mainly for the "23 things" project at Swinburne, as I already have a personal livejournal account. I anticipate learning quite a lot from this project - I may feel comfortable with blogging and posting photos to flickr, but there are lots of other technologies yet to explore. I wish you good luck in your own information adventure, and will hopeful have something of interest to post later.

Hopefully my blog will be added to the list soon. I feel like I'm talking to the ether.
